Don Lake is the Director of Distributed
Learning at the Los Angeles County Office of Education. The Distributed
Learning unit is nationally recognized as a leader in developing innovative
multimedia and online instructional programs for students, teachers
and parents. Don has leadership responsibilities for four major distributed
learning projects: TEAMS Distance Learning- a national satellite
and online distance learning program producing and delivering standards-based
instructional modules for elementary and middle school grades; MathStar-
a three state consortium for systemic, standards-based reform of middle
school mathematics; MERET- an online teacher mentoring program
for reading improvement in grades 4 through 8, and STELLAR Online-
an online professional development program for teachers of English Language
Learners in Los Angeles County. Under Dons leadership, the Distributed
Learning unit provides a wide range of innovative instructional applications
at state, regional and national levels. The most recent initiative is
the digitizing and creative application of video assets to support the
high bandwidth Digital California Project a governors initiative
to provide Internet II access to K-12 schools across the state.
Don Lake has over 25 years of experience
and leadership in instructional technology and distance learning in
K-12 public education. He has served on numerous state and national
policy-making boards and has been a frequent presenter at distance learning
and technology conferences. He currently serves on the boards of the
United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) and the Alliance
for Distance Education in California (ADEC). Don is a past president
for both ADEC and the National Association for Regional Media Centers.
