MARCI POWELL | BIOGRAPHY

Marci Powell joined the Polycom Education Team in 2007 as Global Director for Higher Education.  She is responsible for helping to ensure customer and partner success, assisting in product development related to education and for facilitating integration and utilization of educational technology. Marci is called upon quite often to serve as a keynote speaker, deliver webinars, and to provide consultative expertise. She currently serves on the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) Board of Directors as Executive Vice President/President Elect, as Communities in Schools San Antonio Chair of the Board of Directors, and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Interactive Videoconferencing Special Interest Group (IVCSIG) Steering Committee.

Marci’s expertise in distance learning program development has been shared with many outstanding institutions including the National Education Association, Naval Postgraduate School, Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, West Virginia Tech University, Cobb County Schools (Atlanta), Dallas Public Schools, Kentucky Center for Rural Development, and North Carolina Information Highway. Organizations such as U.S. Trust, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Department, Texas Department of Transportation, Texas State Bar Association, Vanguard Health System, and Halliburton have found Marci’s consulting and training on videoconferencing applications, team meeting strategies, blended and emerging technologies, and instructional techniques to be most beneficial.  Reaching beyond the United States, Marci delivers support to institutions including New South Wales TeleHealth Network and Victoria State Department of Education in Australia. She deals with such topics as interactive and engaging videoconferencing, distance learning course development, instructional design and delivery, corporate training at a distance, and videoconferencing etiquette.

Among Marci’s speaking engagements are keynoting for the Australian Society for Educational Technology, Alabama State Department of Education, 2007 Broadband Summer Institute in Canada, University of Tennessee statewide Distance Learning Technology Conference, and at national and state distance learning associations including Arkansas DLA, Florida DLA, and the Missouri DLA.

Marci is a Past President of the TxDLA, Texas Distance Learning Association. Throughout her service to that organization, she received the TxDLA 2002 Don Foshee Outstanding Leadership Award and the TxDLA 2000 Outstanding Individual Commitment to Service Award. In 2004 and again in 2006, Marci accepted the TxDLA Outstanding Corporate Commitment to Service Award on behalf of AT&T.

Prior to coming to Polycom, Inc., Marci was a Director of Education Advocacy for AT&T, President of VibrantC, Inc., Global Education Market Manager for VTEL Corporation, and served in public education from the classroom to administration with several K-12 school districts and regional education service centers across Texas. While Marci served as Technology Coordinator for Allen ISD, north of Dallas, the district was named the “Lighthouse District for Technology Integration” by the Texas Commissioner of Education and she was named the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) 1998 Technology Support Person of the Year.
