TANDBERG
UNVEILS INTEGRATED MULTIMEDIA VIDEO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM FOR
EDUCATION MARKET
Mobile unit provides flexibility
for demanding K-12 distance learning environments
New York, USA, June 21,
2004 –TANDBERG“ (OSLO: TAA.OL), a global leader
in visual communication, today introduced a mobile video system
to meet the sharp rise in demand for integrated multimedia
visual communication in America’s classrooms. The new
system is being unveiled today in New Orleans at the National
Education Computing Conference, the premier forum for educational
technology.
To meet higher learning
standards, K-12 schools are adopting interactive distance-education
technology at a rapid pace. However, schools are facing difficulties
in supporting widespread use of such technology. With restricted
budgets, typically only a small number of specialized classrooms
have multimedia systems installed. In addition, educators
struggle to bring together the full range of media tools necessary
for comprehensive learning sessions.
To address these demands,
TANDBERG has designed a flexible solution that combines the
power of video with rich media tools -- taking visual communications
to new heights. The new TANDBERG Mediaplace, co-developed
with NYIT, integrates high-quality video with an XGA projector,
DVD/VCR and high quality audio. The Mediaplace connects using
various networks to link classrooms to museums, national parks
and a world of off-campus teaching resources.
“Video communication
clearly has captured the attention of school systems,”
says Stan Silverman, director of Technology-Based Learning
Systems at NYIT. “Distance learning communities comprising
of schools, museums and other organizations are active and
growing. This requires video systems to be comprehensive and
portable. The technology needs to come to the people; not
people to it.”
For example, NYIT works
with the New York State Boards of Cooperative Educational
Services (BOCES), a public organization created by New York’s
legislature, to provide shared educational programs and services
to school districts. BOCES has adopted video to offer virtual
field trips, expand courses and strengthen training for teachers
and administrators.
“By bringing together
multimedia tools and interactive video into one mobile solution,
the TANDBERG Mediaplace supports organizations like NYIT and
BOCES in their mission to enrich the classroom for students
and educators,” says Deborah Harrison, Ph.D., TANDBERG
manager of education markets.
TANDBERG Mediaplace is available
immediately in North America.
