KnowledgeNet Makes E-Learning Equivalent to Traditional Classroom Learning

KnowledgeNet LabWare-Remote Hardware labs, integrated with live e-learning, enables e-learners pursuing Cisco certification to instantly connect to real Cisco devices and practice with unrestricted access to device functionality

PHOENIX--December 11, 2002--KnowledgeNet Inc., the fastest growing e-learning company, today announced the availability of LabWare-Remote Hardware labs. Designed as an integral component of the KnowledgeNet Live Cisco(R)-authorized certification courseware, LabWare-Remote Hardware gives Cisco networking professionals remote access to real Cisco internetworking devices on which they can practice the skills they are learning -- including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance -- without fear of disrupting a critical enterprise network.

LabWare-Remote Hardware bridges the 'equipment gap' between traditional instructor-led classroom training and e-learning, giving students the authentic 'hands-on' experience that is essential to reinforce the skills they will need in the field. LabWare-Remote Hardware extends the capabilities of KnowledgeNet's existing LabWare, providing a true-to-life environment in which students can hone their Cisco internetworking expertise.

As a result of this announcement, KnowledgeNet now offers the most comprehensive blended learning offering for Cisco certification, including self-paced interactive courseware, live instruction delivered over the web, realistic software simulations, authentic hands-on hardware, and mentoring. LabWare-Remote Hardware directly addresses the concern voiced by some observers that e-learning lacks 'real' hands-on experience. A CMP study showed that KnowledgeNet students experience a 50% increase in knowledge retention compared to traditional classroom learning.

"Not only have we matched the effectiveness of traditional classroom learning, we've surpassed it," said Tom Graunke, CEO of KnowledgeNet. "Our new LabWare-Remote Hardware complements our Flash-based LabWare equipment simulations, providing students with the ultimate learning experience -- reality. Taken in conjunction with our Cisco-authorized classroom training over the web, KnowledgeNet e-learning can deliver results that exceed those attained with a bricks-and-mortar classroom experience. KnowledgeNet customers tell us they're achieving learning retention that they didn't think was possible with e-learning."

Anytime, Anywhere Access to the Latest Cisco Hardware KnowledgeNet LabWare-Remote Hardware provides real-time, unscheduled access via a Telnet session to actual Cisco hardware, including Cisco 2600 series routers, and Cisco 6500 and 1900 series switches. This patent-pending technology is the result of a newly formed partnership with Logilent Learning Systems. It can quickly and dynamically allocate equipment to multiple users at any given time -- average lab deployment is 15 seconds. Once the student has completed the LabWare-Remote session, the equipment is 'cleaned' and returned to inventory, ready for the next lab user. No downloads or custom client plug-ins are required, and the session integrates seamlessly with the KnowledgeNet Live training via the KnowledgeNet Learning Management System, which can track and report on student usage.

LabWare-Remote Hardware sessions are designed with user productivity and training results in mind. A Flash-based user interface allows users to directly access a console, a lab guide and a topology all within one window, and menu access to frequently used commands such as Save, Load and Reset. Users can also send their lab session to others via e-mail to deploy to a different device, use for implementation at a customer site, or to verify lab completion. In addition, practical, comprehensive lab guides are available for advanced users, featuring in-depth scenarios and collapsible command and tutorial instructions. Novice users will benefit

from the Command List and Recommended Approach sections. These provide step-by-step details to quickly build and reinforce essential skills. An enhanced print feature allows users to easily print these lab guides and easy-to-follow instructions.
