The MEd in networked E-Learning (Learning and Teaching via the Internet)
is a two year part time, professional development course run entirely
via the Internet which can be studied anywhere in the world. It is designed
to provide participants with a comprehensive grounding in the theory and
application of networked e-learning.
The course will:
- Give you a thorough grounding
in the theory and practice of networked e-learning
- Develop your skills in the
use of ICT, the Internet and computer mediated communications technologies
- Help you, through an action
research perspective, find and use resources on the Internet for the development
of your professional/organisational practice
Specifically, you will learn how to:
- Use the World Wide Web and
other Internet-based technologies, and incorporate them into your own
teaching, learning, projects and research
- Design virtual learning environments
which can be easily accessed by your learners, and where learning and
project resources can be held for easy access
- Use advanced computer mediated communications systems, and
examine the issues that need to be considered when working with collaborative
groups in these environments. Groupwork on the programme is carried
out using Web-CT and other Web communication technologies which allow
you to study wherever you wish while still communicating with other course
participants and tutors
- Access networked resources,
and understand the role of learning-support personnel
- Use the Internet tools for
carrying out research into learning in your own subject/professional area
- Carry out a major action research
project that will focus on your own professional practice and will lead
to the incorporation of networked e-learning into your everyday work.
- The MEd is suitable for a
wide variety of professional people who wish to develop their understanding
of, and expertise in, this new form of teaching and learning.

The course is offered by the University of Sheffield School of Education,
