Online Workshop & Seminar Series
For College Administrators
California Virtual Campus Regional Center 4 is pleased to
announce an Online Workshop and Seminar Series for California
Community College Administrators involved in online Education.
The program will begin with a two week online workshop entitled,
"Developing and Managing Online Programs" , facilitated
by Roe Darnell, President of Cerro Coso Community College.
Delivered as an online class, the workshop is designed to provide
an overview of the requirements for developing and managing an
online program, as well as introduce participants to the online
environment from the student perspective.
The online workshop will be followed by four online seminars
related to online education, presented by recognized leaders in
their respective topics. Each online seminar will begin with
a 1 1/2 hour live web cast, using HorizonLive, followed by a
two-week interactive online discussion, facilitated by the seminar
presenter.
A framed Certificate of Completion from Cerro Coso Online will
be awarded to participants who complete the online workshop as well
as attend at least 3 of the 4 online seminars.

WORKSHOP: DEVELOPING AND MANAGING ONLINE PROGRAMS
October 1- October 12
Instructor: Dr. Roe Darnell
Workshop description: A two-week online workshop designed
to provide an overview of the requirements for developing and
managing an online program. Will be offered entirely online, with
participants becoming familiar with the online environment from a
student perspective.
SEMINAR 1:
A Faculty Perspective on Policies Necessary
for Effective Use of Technology in Education
Presenter: Dr. Ian Walton

Description: Centered on the Academic Senate for
California Community College's Senate "Technology and Education"
publication, this presentation will focus on issues and
policies related to technology and distance education that are
important to faculty.
Discussion Dates: October 12-26
Topic: Online discussion facilitated by Dr. Walton.
Registrants will receive a copy of "Technology in Education",
around which discussions will be organized.
SEMINAR 2:
Accreditation and Distance Learning
Presenter: Dr. David Wolf

Description: This Seminar is intended to introduce the
participant to the relationship between accreditors generally, and
the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges in
particular, and the practice of distance learning.
Discussion Dates: October 19-November 2
Topic: Online discussion, facilitated by Dr. Wolf,
discussing issues related to Accreditation and Distance
Education
SEMINAR 3:
Online Student Services
Presenter: Heather Ostash

Description: This presentation will provide an overview
of best practices, challenges, resources and other considerations
regarding the implementation of comprehensive online student
services.
Discussion Dates: November 9-23
Topic: Student services models including admissions and
records, counseling, tutoring, financial aid, student preparedness,
among other components of online student services will be
demonstrated. A student services needs-assessment instrument
will be shared.
SEMINAR 4:
Creating an Accessible Online Environment
Presenter: Laurie Vasquez

Description: Creating an accessible online
environment, including the most current information on Section 508
compliance.
Discussion Dates: November 30-December 14
