Generation21 Wins Bronze in
Innovative Technology Category of
Excellence in E-Learning Award

Golden, CO, September 25, 2002 - Generation21 announced today that its Universal Knowledge Object(tm) functionality won the Bronze Excellence in E-Learning Award in the Innovative Technology category. Universal Knowledge Objects are nuggets of information that the Generation21 Enterprise system presents to a learner according to his or her individual needs and in the most relevant context possible. They can be endlessly re-used and ensure that information is current, consistent, and readily available.

Multiple developers from various locations work on the same Universal Knowledge Objects in real time. They can map out courses and make adjustments by simply dragging and dropping objects and moving them around within the course hierarchy. The graphical representation promotes collaborative development and facilitates problem solving.

Universal Knowledge Objects can be linked to as many courses as necessary. Because information for all delivery methods comes from one development effort, consistent, up-to-date information is always presented across multiple delivery platforms to varying audiences. Developers can find existing content by searching by keyword or object type.

This functionality supports the system's ability to support online and classroom-based learning, and to provide employees with critical knowledge when they need it most-on the job. Employees can search the database for a particular procedure or piece of information and the Universal Knowledge Objects associated with the query are delivered right to their desktops or wireless devices. In fact, the system's wireless performance support functionality won the Silver in the Innovative Technology category of the 2001 Excellence in e-Learning Awards.

In addition, Generation21 Enterprise pre-tests students to determine what they already know. The system then dynamically constructs a tailored tutorial consisting of only the Universal Knowledge Objects the learner needs. As a result, learners don't have to return to information they already understand.

"In an environment of continuous change and improvement, learning requirements change continuously as well. Thanks to Universal Knowledge Object technology, Generation21 Enterprise responds instantaneously to changing business models and allows organizations to easily create new business models," said Dale Zwart, Generation21 CTO and Founder. "The Excellence in E-Learning Award reaffirms the importance of our system's ability to address this critical need."

The Excellence in E-Learning Awards are presented by brandon-hall.com, a leading e-Learning research and consulting firm, and Online Learning Magazine. Now in its sixth year (formerly the Brandon Hall of Fame Awards), the awards program showcases exceptional work in the e-Learning industry by providing feedback and benchmarking to entrants in an overall effort to help advance the e-Learning industry.

"As they have each year, the winning entries have raised the bar higher than the year before to propel the industry forward," says Brandon Hall, Ph.D., CEO of brandon-hall.com and chairman of the Excellence in E-Learning Awards program. This year, 142 entries were submitted in four categories.

"It's our goal to celebrate and share these ground-breaking efforts and best practices to enlighten the industry as a whole," says Hall.
