POSITION AVAILABLEUNIVERSITY OF ALASKAThe Center for Distance Education at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is looking for a new Director. The position is described below. PCN NUMBER: 201950 EMPLOYMENT: Regular, Full Time, Exempt OPENING DATE: June 19, 2001 CLOSING DATE: Until Filled The Director is responsible for the leadership, vision and direction of the Center for Distance Education and Independent Learning and will be responsible for providing leadership and vision for an expanding statewide university distance delivery system. The Center provides the academic and logistical leadership and support to the College of Rural Alaska's (CRA) distance delivered courses and programs within the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) service area. The Center carries out CRA's Mission to provide the highest quality distance learning to meet the needs of Alaska's citizens and thereby enhancing economic development throughout the State of Alaska. In addition to UAF's service area, the Center is positioned to take a leading role in delivering quality instructional and educational experiences to a culturally diverse audience throughout the statewide university system, across the State of Alaska, and internationally through the Independent Learning Program. The Center already has a range of well-developed offerings using a widely distributed faculty. It presently delivers more than 100 courses to students throughout Alaska via Independent Learning and coordinates the delivery of over 100 more courses using an array of technologically assisted distance delivery services. The challenges are to expand and enhance these offerings, provide increased staff training, and develop strategic partnerships. This requires an individual with entrepreneurial energy, leadership abilities, a thorough understanding of the programmatic and technological opportunities of traditional and innovative distance delivery methods, and the ability to communicate these goals effectively to a diverse audience of administrators, legislators, and students. The director manages all aspects of the Center's activities and staff, including supervision of a staff of 12-15 and coordination with academic deans and faculty to provide a cohesive academic and vocational program via distance delivery.
