Notes from DEOS-Listserve:
Students Comment on Distance Learning

(on feedback to students)

I have attended Duquesne University for six Technology classes, which are heading to a Certificate in I.T. During that period of time, I have never waited more than 4 "working" hours for an answer from any email. These Instructors are very aware of the feedback requirements and have never failed to stay on top of their programs.

Many of the problems, which seem to be addressed in LISTSERVS, while I am sure exist, do not seem to be a problem here. I am also sure that they have faced these problems but maybe they have found the "magic pill" or formula that it takes to get a program online and in-sync with the student learners needs. It seems to have worked here.

(on student participation)

I teach high school F2F and I am a graduate student at Duquesne University in the Distance Learning Master's program. I have to say being on both sides of the fence, both teacher and learner, that distance (internet based) learning offers the introverted student more of an opportunity to have their say and ask questions when in a f2f class that student would never express themselves at all. I see it happen in my classes all the time.

Trying to get those students to contribute can sometimes make them say even less.
