Children: Phillip, born in 1978, is a graduate of Baylor University where he majored in Business Administration. He played linebacker for the Baylor Bears. Phillip married Kim Snelson on January 5, 2001 and they live in Frisco, Texas with our only grandchild (Kennedy Grace Hartfield) born December 2, 2004. Phillip is a SBC Sales Manager, and Kim is a loan officer for Compass Bank. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelors Degree in Business Communications.
Elizabeth, born in 1982, is a senior at Texas State University. She is majoring in communication design. She is very active in community programs. Elizabeth married Will Janson on December 19, 2003. Will is a school teacher and football coach who is completing his Masters Degree at Texas State University. While completing his formal education, Will is a local singer and songwriter who has drawn significant interest in the country music community.
Education: After graduating from high school in Purvis, Mississippi, Raymond completed his Associate of Arts Degree at Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, Mississippi. There he was a classmate of Jimmy Buffet. He continued his education and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi (Hattiesburg) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music and a minor in Chemistry/Physics. He then graduated from the University of South Alabama (Mobile) with Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry and Physics, as well as a Masters of Education in Physics. Raymond completed 72 hours of post Masters work while teaching 5 years of high school science (W. P. Davidson High School in Mobile, Alabama) and two years of undergraduate Physics in the School of Engineering at the University of South Alabama.
Work Experience: In 1979 Raymond accepted a Product Manager position with Texas Instruments and moved to Austin, Texas. He worked for TI until 1992. He was Vice President of Information Services at CCI/Triad from 1992 to 1997. Prior to coming to AT&T, he was Vice President of Global Services for VTEL Corporation (specializing in custom videoconferencing solutions for telemedicine and distance learning). As Director of Education for AT&T, Raymond does research and consulting for multiple education and technology projects throughout Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, and Texas. He is often called upon to provide his expertise in high stakes testing/assessment, instructional best practices, and school finance. He is widely known and respected in many education and industry circles for his legislative updates and has developed a professional network that affords him personal access to hundreds of decision makers in the southwestern U.S.
Other Related Experience: In addition to Raymond’s teaching experience in high school and college, he has served since 1994 on the Round Rock ISD School Board (six years as President). Raymond is also a board member of the YMCA since 1992, and a director for Skillpoint Alliance (previously known as the Capital Area Training Foundation) in Austin.
Raymond has authored 28 published articles, 81 seminars, and 29 keynote addresses for TASB, TASBO, TEA, TASSP, MENC, ADHE, Phi Delta Kappa (National Honorary Educator’s Society) and numerous other organizations nationwide. He is also an active member of Phi Mu Alpha (Symphonia), Kappa Kappa Psi, and Phi Kappa Tau.
Raymond is named as scientist on 6 patents: One in Physics, two in chemistry, and 3 in computer database architecture. He was the supporting scientist for the physics and chemistry patents and the primary scientist for the computer database patents.
Raymond brings an extensive network and relevant experience in public education to AT&T. He is also very well known in the Texas Legislature where he frequently testifies on behalf of public policy and finance.
