Position Overview

The Senior Learning Officer (SLO) will design and deliver training programs,strategies, plans, and processes in the field of public health for the Foundation itself and for grantees. The SLO will collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure high quality content is developed in appropriate formats for different audiences.The SLO will be responsible for ensuring that instructional designs allow for both synchronous and asynchronous learningand have learning outcomes that are specific and measurable. S/he will conduct assessments of training needs, evaluate proposals that include training components, provide technical assistance to grantees, and oversee funded projects. The SLO will also manage, develop, and evaluatecourse content that is designed for self-paced online formats, webinars, orfor use through other digital learning technologies.

The SLO will work closely with Foundation staff to achieve the organization’s goals and to ensure rigorous assessment and evaluation of all internal and funded training projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop needs assessment and instructional design processes.
  • Identify appropriate delivery methods and post-training evaluations for all Foundation funded projects.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop entry and advanced level courses related to public health.
  • Recommend solutions to identified problems and needs in the field of public health training.
  • Manage relationships with grantees to ensure the highly effective instructional design and delivery of training content.
  • Provide technical assistance to grantees on the effective design and delivery of course content.
  • Serve as an expert resourceon the development and delivery of education and training in public health.
  • Support grantees in determining training needs and appropriate delivery methods.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have

  • Three to five years of experience in instructional design or related fields.
  • Experience in developing and conducting distance learning courses for adult professionals.
  • Strong skills as a presenter and facilitator.
  • Experience developing web-based courses and usingmultimedia technology and authoring tools.
  • Experience creating high-quality self-paced learning modules that use technology to engage the adult learner.
  • Desire to continuously learn new development tools and software.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with instructional design and courseware development principles.
  • Knowledge of online teaching and learning methods.
  • Experience working with learning management systems. 
  • Experience using and levering social media including Linked In, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design or related field from an accredited college or university is required. 
  • Master’s degree in instructional design or related field is preferred.
